Summary:
A journal article review will be conducted on "Prioritizing choice and assent in the assessment and treatment of food selectivity" written by Holly C. Gover, Gregory P. Hanley, Kelsey W. Ruppel, Robin K. Landa and Juliana Marcus. The focus of the review will be to explore the growth of behavioral feeding to include assent based practice. The presenters will focus on methodology and design of the study and the outcomes that resulted in increasing consumption of non-preferred foods. Applications to behavioral feeding and outcomes by clinicians in the field will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify assent based procedures utilized in the study
  2. Identify alternative methods to escape extinction that align with the core principles of the BACB Ethical Code for Behavior Analysts
  3. Discuss treatment packages utilized in current practices and explore how those may be modified to include assent-based practices
