Summary:
Public policy advocacy is crucial to ensure equitable access for all those seeking Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services. This presentation will introduce the recently developed Public Policy Advocacy Actions Checklist, which provides guidance to novice advocates in the fields of autism services and behavior analysis. The presenter will share real life examples to illustrate each action step from the checklist, using her experience advocating for access to ABA services in the State of Wisconsin. The actions included in the Public Policy Advocacy Actions Checklist have been instrumental in successful advocacy efforts related to Medicaid policy and reimbursement rates, coverage of telehealth services, and licensure of behavior analysts across multiple states. Attendees will be provided with a copy of the checklist and access to several resources related to public policy advocacy.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to name and describe at least 5 different advocacy actions.
  2. Participants will be able to describe at least 1 successful outcome following the actions included in the Public Policy Advocacy Actions Checklist.
  3. Participants will be able to locate additional resources related to public policy advocacy.
