Summary:
Relational frame theory (RFT) is modern behavior analytic attempt to describe and work with human language and cognition (verbal behavior). The central idea in RFT is that humans early learn a particular way of relating which, once learned, affects the way humans then will interact with the environment in a fundamental way. This includes how humans interact with their own responding, including private events. According to RFT this understanding have important conclusions for verbal interventions. This presentation will discuss these methods for arriving at these conclusions i.e. clinical functional analysis, and give some directions for clinical work.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to describe hierarchical relational framing as distinct from other types of relational framing behavior.
2. Participants will be able to describe how interaction with one’s own private events can influence clinically relevant, overt behavior.
3. Participants will be able to describe a method for clinical functional analysis and its utility in guiding function-based, verbal interventions.
