Summary:
The need for compassion-focused ABA is at the forefront of our clinical practice. With input from the Neurodivergent community, behavior analysts are more aware of the impact applied behavior analysis has on individuals receiving services. We know ABA should emphasize assent, dignity, and be grounded in the stakeholder’s priorities and values. In this panel discussion we will hear from, Kristine Rodriguez, Dr. Jonathan Tarbox, and Courtney Tarbox, authors of a recent publication, “Compassion in Autism Services: A Preliminary Framework for Applied Behavior Analysis.” The authors will discuss a behavior analytic definition of compassion, a set of tenets to guide practice of compassion-focused application, tools to support behavior analysts in developing compassion-focused interventions, and the implications for the neurodiversity community in ABA. The audience will be encouraged to ask questions and engage with the presenters to expand their clinical practice.
