Summary:
With various cultural groups in the United States, behavior analytic practitioners increasingly find themselves serving clients of diverse cultural backgrounds. One of the populations that continue to face underrepresentation is Latinos. Therefore, the current presentation will provide a cultural understanding of the Latino culture to support ethical and culturally responsive behavioral service delivery, based on Baires et al. (2023). Specifically, the Latino identity and Latino cultural values will be explored, any current biases will be identified and followed by a self-compassion exercise, current barriers faced by attendees in the provision of ethical assessment and treatment for Latino families will be pinpointed, and actionable goals will be created to assist in navigating such barriers. This presentation will be offered through a contextual behavioral framework, the literature, and the presenters’ personal and professional experiences as Latino behavior analysts. Recommendations in the areas of assessment, treatment design, service delivery, and collaboration when working with Latinos will also be discussed.
