What BCBAs Need to Know from a Parent Perspective
Presented by Emily Mariner, Dr. Amy Kenzer and Pearl Esau
Hosted by the Compassionate Care in ABA SIG

When: Wednesday, May 10 | 5:00 - 6:00 pm
Where: Zoom (access link will be emailed by the SIG leader)

1 Ethics CEU will be available for attendance.

Compassionate care starts with understanding that parents are the expert on their child, and through collaborative practices, clinicians and families will create a supportive team. In recent years, compassionate care practices have become the focus of presentations and publications, highlighting that how practitioners implement ABA is equally as important as the interventions themselves. While compassionate care is essential, practitioners receive very little practical training in this area. During this structured panel discussion, the parent presenters will discuss: common family stressors related to raising a neurodiverse child, how to adjust their clinical practice to be sensitive to the family’s experiences and needs, and understanding the impact of compassionate care on clinical outcomes. The parent presenters will connect their personal experiences with their clinical expertise.
